VEHICLE OVERVIEW

Designed by Kazumasu Takagi, this is the 3rd generation of the popular “Z” cars, begun with the 240Z. The Z31 300ZX featured improved aerodynamics and increased power when compared to the 280ZX. The new, streamlined body had a drag coefficient of 0.30 and the car was powered by Japan’s first mass-produced V6 engine instead of an inline 6 that was typically used.

With just over 44,600 miles from new, this particular car presents in fantastic original condition both inside and out.

As part of the pre-sale preparation, the original alloy wheels were professionally refurbished and fitted with brand new Avon ZV7 tyres all round.

For those with a soft spot for 80s sports cars, then its two-tone paintwork, removable targa-tops, pop-up headlights and velour cloth interior, must tick all the boxes!

EXTERIOR

Finished in two tone Blue Mist Metallic and Black Blue Metallic, the paintwork as can be seen from the photos, is in excellent overall condition and presents as mostly original. Of course there are a couple of age related marks, to be expected in a 35 year old car, but there are no signs of any significant corrosion, with just some very minor “bubbling” beginning on the front lip of the front driver’s side wing and rear lip of the passenger’s side rear wing.

INTERIOR & EQUIPMENT

The two tone grey/blue cloth seats both front and back are in excellent condition, with no stains, holes or tears and the original carpets are also in great condition. There are no rips or cracks in the vinyl trim fittings, which are also fade free. The targa-tops are also in excellent condition and lift in and out as they’re supposed to and can be stowed in their original targa-top covers when not fitted.

All electrics and gauges work as they should, including heater controls, cruise control, power windows and after-market radio/cd player, with in built USB jack.

The car comes with its OEM space saver spare wheel, wheel jack, as well as the original and complete tool box.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION & SUSPENSION

The 3.0 V6 engine is smooth and powerful and the recent stainless steel exhausts provides for a purposeful, but not intrusive exhaust note.

Recent expenditure set out in the history files includes: new cam belt and water pump at 43,000 miles, fuel, air filters and spark plugs at 42,000 miles and a rear differential oil cooler oil change, at 41,000 miles.

The 4 speed automatics shifts as it should with kick-down engaging promptly when asked for. This car is also fitted with an electric overdrive that drops the revs in the highest gear when activated, to allow for more relaxed cruising.

The suspension feels tight and is free from any knock or bumps having recently benefitted from having new polyurethane “poly bushes” fitted all round.

WHEELS, BRAKES & TYRES

The car sits on factory OEM 16 x 7 inch alloys wheels, which were professionally refurbished as part of the pre-sale preparation and brand new Avon ZV7 in the correct 225/50 R16, have been fitted to all driven wheels.

The brakes which are servo assisted discs all round are powerful and operate as they should.

DOCUMENTED HISTORY

Whilst not coming with a significant history file, the vehicle does come with its original service book with stamps for the 600 mile service dated 27/05/86 and one other service at 27,020 miles dated 18/02/15. Along with MOT records dating back to 2006 where mileage was recorded at 21,232, total mileage of 44,612 to date, would seem accurate.

The history file also includes a number of parts and maintenance invoices, some previous MOT certificates, as well as the original owner’s manual. Also included in the history file is the Total Vehicle Check carried out at the time the car was purchased by us, which helpfully sets out the full record of MOTs from 2006 to current date.
